The Department of Pediatrics of
Eastern Virginia
Medical School (EVMS) is headquartered at
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters
(CHKD). The hospital is the focus of all pediatric undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate training.
CHKD and EVMS are part of a thriving medical complex that includes the Department of Pediatrics
research facility at E. V. Williams Hall,
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
that houses our newborn delivery, the
Strelitz Diabetes Institutes at EVMS, the
Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine
at EVMS, and the clinical and community health services of the
Norfolk Health District headquarters of the
Virginia Department of Health.
The extensive pediatric faculty includes a widely varied full-time medical
staff and numerous community physicians. More than 90 pediatric
specialists treat illnesses such as premature birth, sickle cell
disease, chronic asthma, diabetes, and cystic fibrosis. The Department of Pediatrics is also home to a fully accredited three-year
pediatric residency program that provides a
broad educational experience in all aspects of pediatric medicine.

Thomas Bass received a $750,000 NIH
Grant to study brain-cooling therapy for oxygen-deprived infants.
