Nephrology

Renal specialists provide the most advance diagnostic and treatment procedures for a wide range of diseases of the kidney and urinary tract, including prenatal diagnosis and postnatal management of congenital anomalies of the genitourinary tract, nephrotic syndrome, acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, acute and chronic renal failure, end-stage renal disease, hypertension, hematuria, proteinuria, rental tubular acidosis, and fluid and electrolyte abnormalities.

Care is provided for patients with Vitamin D-resistent rickets, renal calculi, renal insufficiency, cystic kidney disease, renal stone disease, autoimmune diseases and patients requiring home dialysis. Continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration and hemodialysis are available in CHKD's pediatric hemodialysis unit. CHKD nephrologists work closely with CHKD's transplant and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in arranging for renal transplants and are committed to a comprehensive post-transplant patient care program.
