The
Division of Pediatric Basic Sciences
is the basic science research unit for
the Department of Pediatrics. Its
faculty perform basic science research
in the areas of Staphylococcus aureus
pathogenesis and evasion of host
defenses, the genetics of pectus
excavatum, and the identification,
characterization and molecular
"fingerprinting" of agents of nosocomial
infection in children.
The division
is housed E.V. Williams Hall, and includes
approximately 4500 square feet of space
for basic research and divisional
administration. The faculty have
collaborative arrangements with the EVMS
Center for Proteomics, with faculty in
the EVMS Department of Microbiology &
Immunology, and with the Division of
Pediatric Surgery.
The division
faculty perform their personal
laboratory research, but are also
available to assist Departmental faculty
with basic science research support in
the areas of molecular genetics,
microbial pathogenesis and molecular
fingerprinting.
The Division
also provides basic science research
experiences and oversight for Fellows in
the Department of Pediatrics.
