EVMS Department of Pediatrics
Residency Program
Our Pediatric Residency Program provides an outstanding educational experience in all aspects of pediatric medicine. During the 3 years of training, residents become proficient in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic illnesses, and gain experience in preventive and health maintenance. The fully accredited program provides each resident the opportunity to develop expertise in general pediatric medicine as well as in-depth experience in all the subspecialties of pediatrics.
The program prepares graduates to face the challenges and complexities of their practice of pediatrics by fostering lifelong habits and attitudes of learning, promoting the care of children in a continuity-care-setting, and providing increasing responsibility and independence in the clinical decision-making process. In addition, residents have the opportunity to participate in clinical or laboratory research projects with the faculty. Approximately one-third of our graduating residents pursue fellowship training.
Children's Hospital originally opened in 1914. There are currently 49 residents and over 100 full-time faculty
representing
general pediatrics and all of the subspecialty areas of pediatrics.
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is located in a family-centered community. Neighborhood parks, churches, schools, and a hospital-operated childcare center dot the residential community that surrounds EVMS and the medical center complex. Norfolk is part of the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, located in the southeastern portion of the state where unlimited opportunities for recreation, travel, and culture exist. Norfolk and the surrounding area abound in history, with Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown nearby. |
