Education: Conferences

The EVMS Department of Pediatrics and CHKD host many conferences for Residents, Professional Staff, and other Healthcare Professionals. These conferences occur year round with an immense diversity of speakers spanning a vast array of topics; programs range from formal didactic lectures to intruiging case presentations with interactive discussions and workshops.

Two conferences that are staples of both Resident and Professional Staff enrichment are Pediatric Grand Rounds and the annual Williamsburg Pediatrics conference.

Daily morning and noon teaching conferences comprise another facet of our Resident's educational curriculum in general and subspecialty pediatrics. Meeting at 8 am and 12 noon respectively, these sessions are attended by Division faculty, residents, and medical students rotating in Pediatrics. • Annual Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Med Update for Primary Care
• Review approaches to evaluating, diagnosing, and managing injuries in the pediatric and adolescent athlete
• Discuss current information and apply hands-on techniques
• Approximate AMA-PRA Cat 1 Credits: 7 hours
• International Nuss Pectus Exacavatum and Carinatum Lecture Series (2 day)
• OR demonstrations of the minimally invasive surgical treatment for both pectus carinatum and excavatum (NUSS Procedure)
• Features LIVE video theater with audio-talk back system to discuss and review new concepts
• Open to surgeons, surgery residents, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, clinical nurse specialists, and more
• Approximate AMA-PRA Cat 1 Credits: 15 hours

• Share information on effective medical and educational interventions for children with chronic illnesses
• Open to parents, educators, health professionals, social workers, psychologists and guidance counselors

• Annual Bioethics Day Conference
• Focuses on end-of-life issues and the consequences of medical limitations in caring for children and their families
• Discuss varied ways parents approach life and death decisions regarding their children
• Converse about unique aspects of holistic pediatric palliative care
• Open to physicians, residents, medical students, nurses, social workers, health care administrators, clergy, allied health care professionals and others interested in health care ethics

• Annual Forrest White Visiting Lectureship
• Annual Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Update Conference
• Highlight state-of-the-art evidence-based information in pediatric emergency medicine
• Showcases lectures from CHKD PEM Attendings and Fellows
• Presentation of annual Department awards
