Residency: Elective Rotations
One of our fortés as a residency program is the abundance of elective opportunities. In accordance with the ACGME requirements, all residents complete four core electives, all of which are available at CHKD. In addition to the core electives, residents must commit to at least 7 months in subspcecialty rotations; within these 7 months, residents must complete atleast 4 one-month block rotations (See Current ACGME Guidelines).
Some of our residents have rotated with our pediatric neurosurgeons and cardiothoracic surgeons. Subject to the approval of the Residency Program Director, many of our residents create their own electives; these have included elective months to pursue interests in international medicine (see Global Health section), research, quality improvement and child advocacy.
